FAQs
What is a subluxation?
A misalignment and a subluxation are not one and the same. The major difference is whether the nervous system is affected. A subluxation is a misalignment of the cervical vertebrae located near the brain stem, which impairs the ability of the nervous system to properly function.
What can I expect at my 1st visit? And, what will it cost?
There are three steps to getting started as a new member. The total cost of this three-part appointment is up to $209. Pediatric costs on first visit will not be more than 149.
1. Consultation- FREE Your consultation is complimentary and lasts 15 minutes. The goal of this portion of the appointment is to determine if we are a good fit for you and you are a good fit for us. We will review your health history and listen to your description of your case.
2. Physical Exam $60. During the physical exam we will check for muscular imbalances, and use thermography to reveal signs of a subluxation.
3. X-rays- up to $149 adults and up to $99 for children younger than 12. We will take a series of x-rays to determine the exact angles of your misalignment and subluxation. Between your 1st and second visit we will take considerable time to analyze your x-rays to build a plan of care specific to you, we call this your Subluxation Report.
What can I expect at my second appointment?
At your second visit we review your Subluxation Report and X-rays with you.
1. The doctor will present your x-ray findings and your Subluxation Report, this report includes a specific plan of action for you.
2. A team member will present investment options. We provide the options to pay upfront, or make monthly payments toward care. Your 1st payment is due at this time.
3. After committing to your individualized care plan you will receive your 1st correction, and be on your way to better health!
Do you accept insurance? Why not?
We are a cash-based practice, if you would like to bill your insurance company we will provide the necessary form for you to submit for direct reimbursement from your insurance company. All of our patients pay upfront for care, or make monthly payments.
Will I receive a correction at my 1st visit?
No, we never correct on the 1st visit. Upper Cervical Chiropractic uses exact measurements from x-rays, and those x-rays take time to review.
Are x-rays necessary?
In most cases, yes. This is because Upper Cervical Chiropractors use a specific and detailed protocol to determine your specific correction. Rest assured, we take as many steps as we can to reduce the exposure, including lead filters and aprons.
What can I expect after my 1st adjustment?
You may feel sore spots at the site of the correction and/or tightness along your neck and back. You may feel better, or you may feel no change at all, after the 1st correction. Every patient is different, people respond to upper cervical chiropractic in a variety of ways; however, the destination is always to enhance your overall health and healing.
How old does my child need to be before I take them to a Chiropractor?
Our doctors begin seeing babies as young as a few hours old. Birth is the 1st major trauma to the spine as approximately 80% of infants experience cervical spine injuries during the birthing process, regardless of the birthing method. Even a normal, uncomplicated delivery can put forces on an infant’s spine that can lead to a subluxation.
I’m pregnant, is it okay to see a Chiropractor?
Absolutely, Prenatal Upper Cervical Chiropractic is very gentle! Keeping your spine and pelvis in a balanced position will ease pregnancy symptoms and the delivery process for mother. When your body is functioning at its best, it provides the best chance for a developing baby to be as healthy as possible. For example, the nervous system controls and coordinates the travel of nutrients to your baby in uterine, if the nervous system is not able to fully communicate throughout your body this may affect the development of your baby.
I’ve been in an auto accident. Can Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care help me?
Yes. Auto accidents create jarring trauma and can weaken your muscles and ligaments. It is important to balance your structure so that repair to your muscles and ligaments is maximized. This is not only with auto accidents, but with any trauma.
Do you accept personal injury cases (auto accidents)?
We do not accept 3rd party insurance of any kind. We accept personal injury cases who are willing to pay out of pocket for 100% of care, bill their own insurance, and receive reimbursement directly. We will provide all forms necessary to bill 3rd party insurance at the end of care.
How long will it take for me to notice a difference, and is it painful?
There are a series of examinations we perform before and after a correction is given. We expect to see changes immediately following a correction, which we usually see on the cervical x-ray taken directly following your 1st adjustment. This cost of this x-ray is included in your care plan. Most of our patients report feeling both immediate and delayed changes. The correction uses a very light tap with an upper cervical specific instrument. You shouldn’t expect to feel any pain from the correction procedure itself, however, the body is making many changes and you may feel sore for a period of time. The soreness results from your postural muscles working to hold every correction being given and can be felt anywhere along the spinal structure.
