A misalignment is a minor dislocation within the body. When the spine becomes misaligned the body shifts out of balance. This imbalance is sometimes accompanied by pain, but always accompanied by degeneration throughout the body. Sometimes the body is able to correct these misalignments and avoid any long-term damage to the nervous system.

What is a subluxation?

A misalignment and a subluxation are not one and the same. The major difference is whether the nervous system is affected. A misalignment is no longer a misalignment if the vertebrae are interfering in any way with the nerves of the spinal cord. Unlike misalignments, subluxations are never able to self-correct, and do cause health decline.

Although it may seem like a small thing that your spine is subluxated, it’s actually a very big thing. Whenever a vertebrae in the spine shifts or twists out of proper alignment and causes disruption, or distortion of communication within the nervous system, every bodily system becomes susceptible to illness. In other words, the bodily system which controls all other bodily systems begins to misfire. You may see small changes at first, but eventually, those ailments pile up and become chronic illness.

Laura is a patient at our office. Her story is like many of our patients. When she was thirteen she experienced a trauma, not unlike a trauma any other thirteen year old might experience. She was roller-blading, having tons of fun, but had a fall. That fall shifted the vertebrae in her spine resulting in a misalignment, eventually leading to a subluxation.
