Upper Cervical Chiropractic is for kids! Isn’t that great news? We believe Upper Cervical Chiropractic is the most gentle and most effective chiropractic for growing spines, and we believe that every child should begin life with gentle chiropractic because it makes health possible. Upper Cervical Chiropractic is about so much more than pain relief, it’s about making sure the nervous system is able to manage the function of every bodily system, that means every cell, tissue, and organ in the body. Nothing happens in the body without the inborn intelligence of the nervous system, our brains are always at work communicating vital commands to the rest of our bodies. When the nervous system is not able to send and receive correspondence through the nerves within spinal cord a subluxation of the C1 and C2 vertebrae is present. Let’s dive into what a subluxation is, what causes a subluxation, and what happens when kids grow with a subluxation from birth.
What is a subluxation?
A subluxation is the underlying CAUSE of many health problems. Did you know there are 274 unique ways the top two bones in the neck can be misaligned? When a misalignment is unable to self-correct and is interfering with the ability of the nervous system a subluxation is present in the cervical spine (C1 and C2 vertebrae).
Subluxations are sometimes evidenced by symptoms, but symptoms don’t always show up, and don’t always manifest right away. Sometimes we live with a subluxation for years before we experience serious evidence of its presence.
Does my child have a subluxation?
It’s more likely that your child will be born with a subluxation than without, evidence shows that approximately 80% of deliveries, regardless of birthing method, result in an infant having a subluxation of the cervical spine simply by the very nature of the birthing process itself.
“The birth process, even under normal conditions, is frequently the first cause of spinal stress. After the head of the child appears, the physician grabs the baby’s head and twists it around in a figure eight motion, lifting it up to receive the lower shoulder and then down to receive the upper shoulder. This creates significant stress on the spine of the baby.” (1)
“Spinal cord and brain stem traumas often occur during the process of birth but frequently escape diagnosis. Infants often experience lasting neurological defects. Spinal trauma at birth is essentially attributed to longitudinal traction, especially when this force is combined with flexion and torsion of the spinal axis during delivery.” (1)
“For the first time in history, U.S children are sicker than the generation before them. They’re not just a little worse off, they are propitiously worse off physically, emotionally, educationally and developmentally.” (2) We believe this is linked to undiagnosed subluxations from birth and the attempt to treat, or to cover up, the symptoms (or the evidence) of the subluxation rather than removing the subluxation in order to resolve the symptom. When the nervous system is able to work at 100% of its capacity the rest of the body is free to function at 100% of its capacity.
What happens when a subluxation isn’t addressed, short term and long term?
Through early detection and removal of a subluxation a child is able to grow optimally in all areas of health – physically, physiologically, and psychologically. Because there are 274 unique ways the top two cervical vertebrae can become misaligned the symptoms evidenced by subluxation are too many to name. We see infants in our office for all kinds of reasons, which all share the underlying cause of a subluxation. And once that subluxation is removed, that child is free to grow in health so long as that child remains under care to ensure her spine remains subluxation free.

“The first thing to understand about autoimmune diseases is that they are a disease of the immune system. If you have an autoimmune disease, somewhere along the way your immune system went rogue and began attacking your own tissues. In some cases it’s your thyroid under attack, in others it’s your intestines, your skin, your brain, your pancreas, or another organ. But no matter what part of your body is under siege, the culprit is your immune system. This means that in order to treat, prevent, and reverse autoimmune disease you’ll need to get your immune system back under control.” (3)
Auto immune diseases are already the third most common illness in the United States, and continues to chase cancer and heart disease for the first place prize. The good news is that Upper Cervical Chiropractic offers a proactive approach to rehabilitating the immune system from the inside out. Health is not elusive and it’s not a luck game. Parents of children under Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care are empowered as the power of their child’s health is shifted back into their hands. They are able to live in confidence that their child will grow in health, and not be left susceptible to disease, because they truly understand where health comes from. Which is INSIDE the body itself!
The problem with a medication based approach.
Medication is designed to hijack a function within the body, alter a function within the body, or change a function within the body. A medication based approach assumes the body doesn’t know how to function on its own, that it requires the intelligence of an outside force, and that whatever health issue is present is irreversible without medication. This is simply not true. The body is fully equipped to combat disease and illness so long as nothing interferes with the process.
Upper cervical chiropractors remove subluxations, and return the body to a state of optimal function and optimal healing.
Upper Cervical doctors are specifically trained to detect, analyze, and remove a subluxation of the spine. Because the body is unable to correct subluxations on its own, it requires an outside force. We use an instrument which delivers a gentle correction to only the cervical vertebrae. This gentle force does not cure illnesses; it does, however, rehabilitate the nervous system and allow the body to self-heal. It’s the nervous system which combats illnesses naturally from within the body! When the nervous system is free of subluxation, healing WILL occur!
